Heavy Snowfall in Murree, Galyat, tourist entry temporarily closed
Tourists were
temporarily stopped due to heavy snowfall and rush in Murree and Galyat.
Federal Interior
Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said in a statement on social networking site
Twitter: Due to the snowfall, there is a huge rush of tourists in Murree and
Galyat at present and more than one lakh vehicles have gone to Murree and
Galyat via Islamabad.
Islamabad and the
Murree authorities operate 24 hours a day to provide public comfort, yet
transportation to Murree is particularly sluggish owing to increased public
demand, he said. For the time being, the Home Minister has urged travelers,
particularly families, to avoid visiting Murree and Galyat. Tourists have been
temporarily prevented from visiting Murree and Galyat because of the increased
demand, he said.
"The direst of
circumstances would persons be permitted to go beyond the 17-mile intersection
to Murree and Galyat, The ruling would help travelers returning from Murree and
Galyat. Families and other tourists are being safely evacuated from Murree and
Galyat, Sheikh Rashid said.
The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad also said in a statement that "the roads from Islamabad to Murree have been closed in the public interest as there is a traffic jam and a rush of people."
"It is
requested to postpone your plans at this time. The ban on leaving Islamabad
will remain in force till Sunday," he said.
Deputy Commissioner
Rawalpindi said that more than 125,000 vehicles have entered Murree so far.
Snowfall is continuing in Murree due to which power supply in the city has also
been disrupted. It may be recalled that earlier this week, rains and snowfall
had started across the country in mountainous areas, followed by torrential
downpours in Karachi and rain and snowfall in the plains and mountains in
Balochistan. But there were losses.

In Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, communication roads were closed in many areas due to snowfall.
A spokesman for the
Galyat Development Authority said up to 2 inches of snow had fallen during the
fifth spell of snowfall in Abbottabad, Galyat, and heavy machinery was being
used to remove snow from snow-affected highways.
The spokesman said tourists should avoid traveling without chains on the wheels of vehicles during snowfall. He said that as soon as the snowfall stopped, Abbottabad Murree Road would be restored for traffic. According to the Meteorological Department, the snowfall will continue for the next three days.

intensified due to light, heavy rains and snowfall in different parts of the
country.
According to the
Meteorological Department in Karachi, the cold snap is likely to intensify from
January 8 after rains under the current system in Shar-e-Quaid and the
temperature may drop to a single digit.
According to Director Meteorological Department Sardar Sarfraz, strong westerly winds have affected Balochistan this winter, which has resulted in good rainfall in South Balochistan. He said that there is a possibility of thundershowers in Karachi from this evening or night and after that cold winds of 45 to 54 km/h may blow.
According to weather

increase cold in Balochistan
Snowfall and heavy
rains led temperatures to plummet to below freezing in many sections of
Balochistan, triggering a severe cold wave over the province. According to the
report, rains and snowfall also disrupted gas and electricity supplies in

forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rains and snowfall will continue
in Balochistan for the next five days with the new system entering on Sunday. Recent

in which relief and rehabilitation activities will also be reviewed.
According to the
Chief Minister's Spokesperson, emergency measures have been initiated in Turbat
Gwadar and Makran Division on the direction of the Chief Minister and immediate
provision of tents, blankets, and food items has been directed to the affected
persons.
The statement said the staff was present with heavy missionaries to keep the traffic flowing on the
highways in the snow-affected areas.
According to Director
General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Naseer Nasir, teams
have been dispatched to the affected areas, and blankets, tents, cylinders,
medicines, and food items have also been sent.
