NADRA is working on creating a Digital Vault on Computerized National Identity Cards.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is aiming to make computerized National Identity Cards a digital wallet as part of the government's Digital Pakistan Vision, and an upgrade to an existing application is expected to be ready by the end of this year.

According to the newspaper, NADRA chairman Tariq Malik stated that in order to make the government's goal a reality, we have established an online portal as a cornerstone of digital ID to assist applicants for National Identity Cards. The 'Pak Identity' smartphone app has been released.

He says that using biometric fingerprints, face recognition, and cellphones, he can scan the paperwork needed for the processing of a person's identification card without having to visit a NADRA office or an embassy.

He said that in a short period of time, 75,000 Pakistanis residing overseas were able to receive their National Identity Cards (also known as Nikop) through the use of this software, which features two-factor authentication at home. The application is compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.

According to Tariq Malik, with the launch of this application, Pakistan has become the first country to establish a contactless biometric and verification system using smartphone cameras.

He stated that, following the successful testing with 75,000 foreign Pakistanis, NADRA will now use a digital wallet.

The Chairman of NADRA explained the benefits of the Digital Wallet, saying that it would be a unique digital ID, insuring people's comfort, and will revolutionize Pakistan's National ID environment by removing conventional physical ID. As a result, this is a significant breakthrough.

With the advent of remote identification and e-KYC (know customers electronically), he continued, such technology delivers positive outcomes in digital contactless banking, financial inclusion, the convenience of doing business, and e-governance activities.

NADRA has so far registered 120 million adults across the nation, accounting for 96% of the country's population over the age of 18, with Balochistan accounting for 83% and other provinces accounting for more than 96%.

He stated that NADRA will open facilities in the remaining 20 of the country's 517 tehsils by June.

He also stated that NADRA would deploy 96 mobile vans, bringing the total number of NADRA vans in the country to 356.

Concerning the usage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming elections and NADRA's involvement in data verification, the NADRA Chairman stated that whether an EVM is used or not, the polls would be conducted using NADRA's data. The Election Commission is in charge of this, and NADRA has no say in the matter.

Keeping in view the technological innovation, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) had introduced a creative application through which citizens will be able to verify their biometrics through their smartphones.

According to the report, NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik while talking to Dawn had said that after the introduction of this app, Pakistan has rapidly moved towards a digital identity lifestyle. "It will be a game-changer because it will facilitate many sorts of transactions between citizens, identity providers, the public and private sectors," he added.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated NADRA's Pak-ID mobile application to facilitate the use of the Pak-ID portal for National Identity Card applicants.

He had said in his tweet that "Pak-ID mobile app launched by NADRA is a revolutionary step to provide convenience and convenience to the people, especially Pakistanis living abroad."

"Tariq Malik and the NADRA team have made a good step forward," he noted. Candidates of http://id.nadra.gov.pk can now submit fingerprints, photographs, and documents using their mobile phones. This mobile app helps in biometric verification and digital scanning of documents using the smartphone camera.

Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik said that this innovation will revolutionize the system of the National Identity Card and provide facilities to the citizens. He said such technological innovation would have a positive impact on e-governance initiatives through digital integration, ease of doing business, and provision of remote identification as digital benefits.

Tariq Malik said that this would open new doors for the business so that they would be able to take the users into confidence faster and through this, they would be able to authenticate without the latest password.
